Want to know how to get your stolen car or truck back?

I can not think of something more evasive than getting your car broken into or stolen. It makes you feel so unsafe and violated. I know people who’ve had their cars broken into before and I know people who’ve had their cars stolen before. Luckily for them no one was hurt in the process. OnStar has a new service that will help you feel a little bit more secure in your GM car or truck. It’s called the  “Stolen Vehicle Slowdown”.

Here’s how it works:  First thing first is you need to call the police and report your new car or truck as stolen. After you’ve reported your new car or truck as stolen and you have a case number you call OnStar and ask for Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance. OnStar will take care of the rest from there. Here’s what OnStar will do.

“OnStar uses real-time GPS technology to pinpoint the exact location of the stolen vehicle and provides this information to law enforcement to help them recover the vehicle, says OnStar.”

Once the police have located the vehicle and have determined that it’s going to be safe for everyone around the stolen vehicle they will ask OnStar to slow it down remotely. This won’t be done until all of the safeguards are put in order. OnStar will only then send a remote signal using cellular technologies to the vehicle which interacts with the Powertrain system to ignore the throttle input which causes the vehicle to slowdown.

I know for me personally it makes me sleep a little better at night knowing that if someone were to steal my car it will have a much higher chance of being recovered because of the help from OnStar.

Here’s a video on how the Stolen Vehicle Slowdown works.

Do you have any success stories about OnStar on your vehicle?
