GMC expands upon its current-generation with new packaging and options

GMC has long been a strong competitor within the SUV automotive market. With some of the most iconic vehicles within its brand, it is no surprise that the 2017 GMC Terrain would be a top contender among other SUVs within its class. The SUV is in its eighth year of production. This year, the GMC adds upgrades to its wheels, trim options, and fine tunes the performance, fuel efficiency, and sculpting. Edmunds has stated that the “Ride quality is excellent in the 2017 GMC Terrain” and we would agree.

Exterior Sculpting and Trims

The 2017 GMC Terrain sculpting showcases strong contours alongside subtle curvature. Unlike other vehicles within the market, the GMC Terrain has not abandoned the overall design of the SUV. At the same time, the vehicle has undergone some modernization from its beginnings 8 years ago. Specifically, the wrap around rear glass as well as the updated headlights and taillights adds to a sportier appearance.

As the name would suggest, the terrain is equipped to handle various driving conditions. The higher frame allows for the GMS Terrain to clear most debris. At the same time, the curvature on the rear-end of the SUV cuts down on the drag and helps with the overall fuel efficiency.

The 2017 GMC Terrain comes in five trim levels. These are the SL, SLE-1, SLE-2, and the Denali. The SL is the base model and comes with:

  • 18 inch wheels
  • Cruise control
  • Power lumbar driving seat
  • Telescoping steering wheel
  • 7-inch infotainment system

Each model builds upon the standard features of the SL model. Packages and trim options can further enhance the driving experience. Ask your dealership about the model, trim, and package options that will best help you meet your driving, styling, and performance needs.

Interior Elements

When looking at the interior of the 2017 GMC Terrain, one of the key features is the unique design of the front dash. Where many competitor consoles have an infotainment system and gadget cluster, several of these models fall short in creating an aesthetically pleasing composition. Either the console is bulky and overly geometric, or the console is too minimalistic and the functionality of the system suffers. On the 2017 GMC Terrain the console has a two curve design. Air conditioning has a more vertical then a square design and merges with the infotainment system to create not only a functional but a visually pleasing space.

Space within the GMC SUV allows for ample legroom for up to 5 passengers. When not in use, the back seats can utilize the 60/40 folding seats to maximize the cargo space. Those which need additional space may have the option of a third row seat in selected model and trim options. Ask your dealership about the available trim, packages, and accessories available for your selected model.

Power and Performance

Standard on the 2016 GMC Terrain is a 2.4L four-cylinder six-speed transmission. There is an available 3.6L V6 engine which adds a substantial amount of horsepower and torque to the vehicle. This increase in power and torque is needed to properly equip the Terrain for towing (which can reach up to 3,500 lbs on the V6 equipped Denali. Yet, even with the base 2.4L engine, the SUV still receives very competitive EPAs both in city and in highway mileage. Both vehicles come with a standard front-wheel-drive system with the availability of an all-wheel drive system.

In fuel economy ratings the U.S. Department of Energy rated the 2017 GMC Terrain as not being a gas guzzler. EPA estimates were competitive with other similar SUVs within its class.
