Buick, Cadillac and GMC all Receive the Coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick Award!

December 27th, 2010 by

We are excited to share the news that the new 2011 Buick LaCrosse, 2011 Buick Regal, 2011 Cadillac CTS, 2011 GMC Terrain and 2011 Cadillac SRX have all received Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  This is the second year the Buick LaCrosse has been awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick.

Top Safety Pick recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rollover, and rear crashes based on good ratings in Institute tests. Winners also must have available electronic stability control, a crash avoidance feature that significantly reduces crash risk. The ratings help consumers pick vehicles that offer a higher level of protection than federal safety standards require.  “Safety is a priority among this crop of winners,” Lund says. “From the start these manufacturers set out to design vehicles that would earn Top Safety Pick, even though we’ve made it harder to win.” [Source: IIHS]

To earn a Top Safety pick means that a vehicle has preformed well in all of the Institute’s tests including a roof-crush test (which was added last year), front side and rear crash tests. In addition, all vehicles much have electronic stability control (ESC) available.  ESC will be a new standard for the 2012 model year.  The vehicles are rated by IIHS on a scale of Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor. To receive a Top Safety Pick a vehicle must score Good in all categories.

You can come check out all six IIHS Top Safety Pick models, the new 2011 Buick LaCrosse, 2011 Buick Regal, 2011 Cadillac CTS, 2011 GMC Terrain and 2011 Cadillac SRX at the dealership. We’d love to answer any questions you may have!
