Fully designed, the 2017 GMC Acadia is a strong competitor among SUVs

The Acadia was introduced to the market in 2008. In the nine years that it has been manufactured the midsized SUV has not undergone a redesign until this year. The 2017 GMC Acadia ushers in the next generation for the popular family vehicle. The new 2017 Acadia has left critics with “mostly positives things to say about this new and improved SUV. We appreciated the Acadia’s comfortable ride, and noted its greater agility thanks to its lighter weight”(Motortrend). With a lighter body, new technological features, updated engineering and safety packages, the 2017 GMC Acadia is a strong and welcome competitor among top-rated SUVs.

Exterior Sculpting

Quite notable when compared to prior models, is the exterior sculpting of the 2017 Acadia. The fully redesigned sculpting of the exterior meets the modern demands of the automotive industry and engineering. Specifically, the body as a whole gains a substantial amount of curvature. The front fascia has been rounded both vertically and horizontally. Available LED running lights as well as the implementation of more “organic” appearing headlights (meaning that they get away from the box look and have a design which is more represented of a human eye shape), give the front end a luxurious aesthetic.

Where the curvature of the exterior brings a modernistic design to the sculpting, there is also a function to the design. By having more curves on the exterior the vehicle has less wind resistance. Add the sculpting to the fact that the vehicle has dropped 7,000 lbs from prior models, and one can see how the vehicle has been praised for its ease of steering and agile handling. Less weight and less wind resistance equals better aerodynamics, less fuel consumption, and easier handling.

The 2017 GMC Acadia has four different trim selections. And while all of four vehicle trims have a level of the new curvature for the totally redesigned SUV, each level has its own level of sophistication and design. The three levels available are the SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali

Interior Features

As many SUVs are intended for both family excursions as well as the commute of the single driver to and from work, it is important that the interior have the diversity to accommodate both parties. Space within the 2017 GMC can seat up to 6 people depending upon the trim and seating configuration you opt for. Standard seating can fit 5 passengers. Front and back leg room is plentiful as the overall space has been optimized for functionality and for extended road trips. “The 2017 Acadia’s interior features a modern design and materials that are as good as those on any other SUV in this class. Feature availability also meets modern expectations, and the infotainment system is as responsive and easy to use as those in the Acadia’s rivals”(Edmunds).

Power and Performance

There are two engine options available for the new 2017 GMC Acadia. Standard on the midsized SUV is a 2.5L four cylinder engine on a six speed automatic transmission. A 3.6L V6 is available on selected trims and is essential for those which wish to have high towing capibilities. Both selections are based upon a FWD system. However, the option for an all-wheel driving system is available. Ask your dealership about packages and engine enhancements available for your selected trim.

To further increase the driving experience, owners can opt for a number of additional driver enhancement features including:

  • Blind Spot monitoring
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • Frontal Collision mitigation
  • Front Parking Sensors
  • Lane keep assistance

In EPA testing, the 2017 Acadia registered competitive combined city and highway MPGs when compared to other vehicles in its class, according to Fueleconomy. Additionally, the site shows that the energy impact and the greenhouse Gas emissions are average for an SUV of its size. Performance testing showed that the lighter body and sculpting lent to higher speeds, better handling, and an overall increased driving experience over competitor models.
