Be on the Lookout for a New Buick and GMC Saftey Feature on Cincinnati Cars in 2013

January 12th, 2012 by

Hey Cincinnati car enthusiasts, be on the look out for a new safety feature to come standard on the 2013 Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia models that have power seats – a center air bag. After three years of testing different designs to achieve the perfect packaging, cushioning and restraint for several different crash and occupant positioning scenarios, GM and Takata have finalized the design on this industry-first air bag.

According to GM’s analysis of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System database, side-impact crashes accounted for 11 percent of fatalities between 2004 – 2009. In the same type of crashes, the passenger on the non-struck side of the car represented 20 percent of fatalities.

This new safety feature will help reduce injury to front seat passengers during side-impact crashes. It’s located between the driver’s front and passenger seats and provides cushioning between drivers and front passengers. Interested in how it will work? Check out this video below and see for yourself.

If I were ever involved in a side-impact crash – heaven forbid – I know that that center air bag is definitely something I would be thankful for. Stick around for more updates on how GM plans to make our Cincinnati cars as safe as possible. In the meantime, swing by and check out this year’s model of the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia at Bill DeLord’s Cincinnati car dealership.
